Drop (Jacket Sizing)

Drop is the difference in inches between a jacket’s chest and waist measurements — a "6-drop" suit has a waist 6 inches smaller than the chest, a "7-drop" runs slimmer, and lower drops are boxier. It is the number that decides whether an off-the-rack jacket suits an athletic or a fuller build before any tailoring. Most brands publish a single drop across sizes, which fits some bodies better than others. Knowing your own chest-to-waist difference, and a jacket’s drop, predicts fit far better than the size label alone — and flags whether the waist will need taking in.
