Cemented Construction

Cemented construction attaches the outsole to the upper with adhesive rather than stitching. It is the most common method in modern footwear because it is cheap, fast, and allows light, flexible shoes. The catch for value buyers: when a glued sole wears through or separates, the shoe is usually done — resoling is often impractical or uneconomical. That is fine for sneakers and inexpensive shoes priced accordingly, but it undermines the cost-per-wear case for anything sold as an heirloom. When a "premium" boot turns out to be cemented, the durability story deserves a second look.
