Oxford or poplin — which shirt fabric?

Oxford cloth is a textured basket weave: softer, more durable, more casual, and forgiving of wrinkles — ideal for an everyday button-down worn on its own or under a jacket. Poplin (broadcloth) is a smooth, tight plain weave: crisper, dressier, and better under a suit, but it shows wrinkles more and can feel thin if the yarn is cheap. Neither is better in the abstract; it is a use-case match. For a rugged do-everything shirt, oxford wears tougher; for a clean formal look, poplin presses sharper. Weight and yarn quality still separate a good version of either from a flimsy one.
