Oxford Cloth vs Poplin

Pick by where the shirt will work. Oxford is the rugged everyday button-down: it wears tougher, hides wrinkles, and dresses down happily with chinos or jeans — the better single-shirt buy for most casual wardrobes. Poplin is the dress shirt: crisp under a suit, sharp when pressed, but more wrinkle-prone and dependent on good yarn to avoid a papery feel. Neither is higher quality in the abstract; it is a formality match. If you can own only one, oxford covers more ground; if the goal is a clean look under tailoring, poplin presses better. Weight and yarn still separate a good version of either.
